ASE Technology Holdings Honored with the TCSA Top 10 Taiwanese Sustainable Manufacturing Companies Award for 2024
ASE Technology Holdings (ASEH) continues to make significant strides in promoting sustainable development, achieving remarkable recognitions. This year, ASEH was honored with the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) for the fourth time. The company has also received the most number of individual sustainability performance awards in the manufacturing sector, including the "Climate Leadership Award," "Water Resource Management Leadership Award," "Circular Economy Leadership Award" "Sustainable Supply Chain Leadership Award" "Social Inclusion Leadership Award" "Workplace Well-being Leadership Award" "Talent Development Leadership Award" as well as the "Corporate Sustainability Report Platinum Award". Further solidifying its global standing, ASEH received the "Sustainability Reporting Silver Award” at the Global Corporate Sustainability Awards (GCSA).

ASEH has received three Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards (TSAA) that recognizes the company’s progress in addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals including the Digital Transformation and Sustainable Manufacturing Excellence Award (SDG 9), the Circular Economy and Sustainable Manufacturing Gold Award (SDG 12), and Innovative Alliance Practicing Sustainable Co-Prosperity Silver Award (SDG8). The company’s exceptional efforts in biodiversity assessment, conservation, and restoration were recognized with a Silver Award at the Taiwan Biodiversity Awards (TWBA).
ASEH continues to earn prestigious accolades, securing a place on the 2024 winners list for the Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility Award presented by CommonWealth Magazine. ASEH was ranked eighth in the Large Enterprises – Manufacturing Sector category and was also recognized among the top 100 corporations for talent sustainability. Additionally, ASEH was featured on the “Healthy 99” list of companies, receiving the 2024 Corporate Health Responsibility Awards. In total, ASEH received 17 domestic awards, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable management.
Aligned with ASEH's four strategic sustainability pillars — Low Carbon, Circular, Inclusive, and Collaborative — our commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 has led us to implement five comprehensive action plans: carbon credits, renewable energy, low-carbon logistics, low-carbon products, and supply chain engagement. In 2023, ASEH participated in the inaugural voluntary carbon credit trading initiative and introduced the "Low-Accumulation Forest Carbon Sink Project" designed to assist farmers in earning carbon credits. To advance our renewable energy, ASEH has established a “Renewable Energy Platform” enabling renewable energy to account for 20% of total electricity consumption in 2023. For supply chain engagement, ASEH has implemented a low-carbon supplier selection and retention system, promoted the CDP supply chain project, launched a supplier sustainability award, and established a verification center. In addition, we conducted supplier assessments and provided guidance to our suppliers on cybersecurity maturity, carbon inventory and verification.
On environmental sustainability, our Kaohsiung facility has established 46 lights-out factories. The Kaohsiung bumping plant has been recently inducted into the WEF Global Lighthouse Network (GLN), showcasing its leadership in integrating smart manufacturing and sustainable development. The company has also established a "Plastic Recycling Center," implementing processes to transform waste plastics into products. Further advancing its commitment to water conservation, ASEH built Taiwan's first on-site water recycling plant, capable of treating wastewater to pure water standards for recycling, allowing each drop of water to be recycled more than 3.5 times. To align operational goals with sustainable outcomes, the senior management’s compensation is tied not only to the company’s financial performance but also to the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance metrics, fostering a companywide commitment to prioritize sustainability.
In the realm of human development and workplace well-being, ASEH is committed to fostering sustainable talent development and automation training programs, emphasizing the cultivation of a robust talent reserve for the future. The company offers paid maternity leave and childbirth subsidies beyond legal requirements. In addition, ASEH established three kindergartens that offer childcare services tailored to employees' commuting schedules and introduced a 'Workplace Maternal Health Protection Program'. In 2023, ASEH achieved an employee retention rate of 83%, reinforcing its commitment to creating a secure and family-friendly workplace environment.
To ensure a safe, healthy, and high-quality work environment for employees, ASEH pioneered the semiconductor industry's first safety white paper focused on packaging and testing equipment, ensuring a secure and high-standard workplace. The company has also organized health education activities, including smoking cessation campaigns over the years. In 2023, the success rate for participants in the smoking cessation program reached 61%, contributing to enhanced employee health and well-being. ASEH dedicated significant resources to cultivating a diverse and inclusive workforce. The company enforces a zero-fee policy for foreign employees at every stage, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, contract renewal, and safe return to their home countries. ASEH promotes specialized training programs for foreign employees and mid-level talent development and has invested NT$1 billion to create a smart green building for female dormitories, offering foreign employees a better living environment and peace of mind while working in Taiwan. In 2023, the retention rate for foreign employees reached 95%, fostering a workplace that values diversity and inclusion.
In 2023, ASEH established a 'Biodiversity and No Deforestation Policy' and conducted comprehensive natural risk assessments across all its major facilities. The company adopted the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) frameworks, issuing a 'Climate and Environmental Report' to share relevant information with the public. To enhance environmental sustainability, ASEH prioritizes environmental public welfare as a cornerstone of its social engagement. The ASE Environmental Protection and Sustainability Foundation has consistently supported forest and marine conservation programs. In 2023, the area of newly planted forests reached 31.68 hectares, resulting in a carbon sink of 158 tCO2e annually. The company collaborated with employees, government agencies, and supplier partners to organize beach clean-up activities, removing nearly 314 metric tons of marine debris. ASEH also invested in training for the 'ASEH Environmental Diving Team,' offering ecological diver training and certifying 124 ecological divers. In 2023, coral conservation efforts in Penghu led to the restoration of 540 coral specimens, along with the implementation of a coral observation and monitoring program to protect marine biodiversity.
Upholding a spirit of giving back to society, ASEH actively engages in social welfare activities. It collaborates with the Chang Yao-Hong Social Welfare Charity Foundation and the Kaohsiung City Government to promote long-term care services for the elderly, launching a dedicated mobiles Fitness Gym. The company supports the Taoyuan Water Bureau and the Agricultural Engineering Research Center in reusing discharged water for rice irrigation, investing NT$1.37 million to purchase approximately 10 tons of the harvested rice to distribute to employees, fostering sustainable value for farmers, land, and businesses. For three consecutive years, ASE Social Enterprise and the ASE Environmental Protection and Sustainability Foundation have organized a competition centered on sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship, investing approximately NT$15 million to support startups in sustainable technology. The initiative aims to amplify the technological impact of the industry and drive positive social change through collaborative, practical partnerships with participating teams.
